Entries into the Santos North Western Tour have now officially opened with the inaugural event to be held between Thusday 21st June - Sunday 24th June 2012.

About The Santos North Western Tour

The Santos North Western Tour (SNWT) is an exciting new National Road Series event being launched in June 2012 by Cycling NSW. Having been granted National Road Series (NRS) status for the 2012 season, the SNWT will quickly become the blue ribbon event on the NSW calendar. 

With Santos on board as the major sponsor for this NSW North Western Tour, Cycling NSW will attract Australia’s best National Road Series teams to the tour that will showcase our regional centres of Narrabri, Coonabarabran, Gunnedah and Tamworth as travel destinations for tourists as well as incorporating landmarks such as the ANU Siding Springs Observatory which will host a stage finish and depart for this year’s tour.

The differentiating factor between the SNWT and other existing National Road Series Tour events in Australia is that the SNWT will cater for both men’s and women’s teams which supports Cycling NSW’s current strategy focused around developing women’s cycling in NSW and Australia. The SNWT is to be staged over 4 days (5 stages) initially and is expected to generate hundreds of thousands of dollars of economic benefit for the region.

This tour is being held in conjunction with the Keegan Downes Memorial Sundowner Handicap on Saturday the 23rd and the Gunnedah to Tamworth Scratch races on Sunday the 24th.

Fields will be limited to 175 men and 75 women for the event, with priority given to NRS registered teams.

The event is open in order or priority to:

        1. NRS-Registered Teams
        2. International Teams
        3. Composite Teams
        4. Individual

Entries into the Santos North Western Tour will initially be treated as nominations rather than confirmed starters with priority given to riders as outlined above. Riders entering as individuals may be given the opportunity to ride as part of a composite team.

As arrangements for the tour are still in the process of being finalised, we will make information available as soon as possible.
